Chromebooks are awesome because they can't get viruses! If you are experiencing pop-ups, then there's no need to worry; usually pop-ups occur when an extension gets attached to your account.
How to get rid of pop-ups
- On your Chromebook, open Google Chrome.
- You can use one of these three ways to get to the Extensions page:
- In the browser URL bar, type chrome://extensions/ and hit Enter.
- Click the three dots menu in the upper right corner of your window, then click "Extensions" and then "Manage Extensions" in the submenu.
- Click the jigsaw puzzle piece icon next to the browser URL bar and click "Manage Extensions" in the menu that pops up.
- In the browser URL bar, type chrome://extensions/ and hit Enter.
- You will be taken to the "My Extensions" page, which lists every app in your Chromebook.
- Click the "Remove" button in the bottom left corner of the app you want to remove.
- Apps which you should remove because they cause pop-ups:
- Any app that says "ads".
- Gaming or streaming apps.
- Even some PDF viewers can cause pop-ups.
- Apps which you should remove because they cause pop-ups:
- A pop-up dialog box will appear in the upper right corner of your screen which will ask you to confirm that you want to remove the extension. Click the blue "Remove" button to delete the extension.
- Clicking "Remove" may open the extension developer's external site or the Chrome Web Store. You should close those tabs/windows and not interact with them.
Continue doing this with all of the extensions/apps you need to remove. You should delete all non-school related apps! Though games and streaming can be fun, we need to make sure our Chromebooks are running smoothly for school too.
