If you have multiple monitors, there are various ways you can use them to make a presentation or work on a project.
The prerequisite for this tutorial is that you have at least one other display screen or projector screen connected to your computer. To get started, open up the display settings of your computer, and then you can mirror or extend your screen as needed.
To get started, open your Settings and go to the Displays page.
Now that the settings are open, you can do any of the following.
Mirroring your screen
You can mirror your screen to another display monitor so that the content shown on both displays are the same. Cursor movement, applications, etc. are all the same on this mirrored screen, so others can see exactly what you're doing if you project the second screen.
How to mirror your screen
Click on the display you want to be the mirrored screen, and in the "Use as" dropdown menu at the top of the settings, select the name of the display that you want duplicated on the mirrored screen.
Alternatively:
- You can mirror and rearrange your display screens at the same time by clicking the "Arrange" button at the bottom left of the "Displays" box.
- In the "Arrange Displays" popup box, hold the "Option" button on your keyboard and drag the display screen you want to be a mirror. Place it on top of the other display screen that you want to be mirrored. Click the "Done" button to save your changes.
How to stop mirroring your screen
Click on the display screen that is being the mirror. In the "Use as" dropdown menu at the top of the settings, select the "Stop Mirroring" option.
Extending your screen
When you extend your screen to another display monitor, you are expanding your workspace. Content can be moved between screens, but each application is unique. This can be helpful if you need to project a slide presentation on one screen and have lecture notes open on another, or if you need to see applications side-by-side in order to multitask. Your screen can be extended to multiple displays too, so you are not limited to just two screens to work with.
How to extend your screen
Click on the display you want to be the extended screen, and in the "Use as" dropdown menu at the top of the settings, select the "Extended display" option.
After you have the screens set to "Extended display", click the "Arrange" button at the bottom left of the "Displays" box.
In the "Arrange Displays" popup box, drag the display screens to your desired configuration, and when you are satisfied with the order of the screens, click the "Done" button to save your changes.
Changing which screen is your main display
To change which screen is your main display screen, click on the display you want to be your primary screen and in the "Use as" dropdown menu at the top of the settings, select the "Main display" option.
