The best way to share your Chromebook screen to the Newline boards is to use the built in Newline Cast app. We encourage you to use this method as it protects your private information and prevents students from seeing you input your password or other credentials.
- Open the "Newline Cast" application on your Newline board.
- Once the app is open, you will see the following screen. It will have a number displayed called the "session ID" that is unique to your classroom.
- This number will change daily for security purposes and can't be accessed externally.
- On your Chromebook, open a new tab in Google Chrome and go to "displaynote.com/join". In the "Session ID" field, type in the session ID displayed on your Newline board from the previous step.
- In the "Your name" field, type in a display name you would like to use to identify the board with. It can be something like your name/last name or your classroom name.
- Once the "Session ID" and "Your Name" are entered, click "Connect".
- On your Newline board, you will see your display name populate in the "Invite someone to present" section. Tap your display name. This will grant your Chromebook access to cast to the Newline board.
- On your Chromebook, a pop-up saying "You've been invited to present" will appear. Click the "Share my screen" button to continue.
- From there, DisplayNote will give you three options to share your screen.
-
Use the "Chrome Tab" option to share a specific tab on Google Chrome: This is the safest and most secure way to share with students without accidentally sharing private information or other tabs. While you share a specific tab, you can continue to work on your Chromebook without sharing it on the Newline board.
- To share a specific tab, click the name of the tab you would like to project to the Newline board in the list on the left side of the pop-up window, and then click the "Share" button in the lower right corner of the pop-up window.
- The image below is what the view on your Chromebook will look like when you start sharing your screen. Once you click "Share", the Newline board will display the chosen tab, and nothing else. It will share this until you close the "Newline Cast" app on the Newline board, if you close the tab you are sharing on Google Chrome, or if you click "Stop sharing" on your Chromebook screen.

Use the "Window" option to share a specific window: This allows you to share the full Chrome window, and switch between multiple tabs to display on the Newline board. Be sure to not share any confidential information by mistake!
- To start sharing a window, click on the thumbnail of the window you want to share, and then click the "Share" button in the lower right corner of the pop-up window.
- Once you click "Share", the Newline board will display the chosen window, including the list of the tabs at the top, so tabs with sensitive titles should be removed from the window if you don't want it to be visible. It will share this until you close the "Newline Cast" app on the Newline board, if you close the window you are sharing, or if you click "Stop sharing" on your Chromebook screen.

Use the "Entire Screen" option to share an entire screen: This will share all of the contents visible on your Chromebook screen (or other display monitors you may have) and allow you to switch between different windows and applications while sharing your screen. Be sure to not share any confidential information by mistake!
- To start sharing a window, click on the thumbnail of the "Built-In Display" (or other display monitor option) you want to share, and then click the "Share" button in the lower right corner of the pop-up window.
- Once you click "Share", the Newline board will mirror your entire display screen, including your desktop and any other apps you have open on that screen, so any irrelevant apps should be minimized or moved to a different screen if you don't want them to be visible. It will share this until you close the "Newline Cast" app on the Newline board, if you close the window you are sharing, or if you click "Stop sharing" on your Chromebook screen.
