In Canvas, sometimes it is necessary for students to work beyond the end date of the Canvas term. This can be accomplished by creating an Extended Deadline section.
Steps:
1. Access the course Settings menu and click on the Sections tab.
2. In the "Add a new Section" Field, create the "Extended Deadline" section by entering the name, then clicking the +Section button.
3. Click on the name of the newly created section, then Edit Section. Here we can assign an automatic Start Date and End Date. For the Start Date, choose any date before today. For the End Date, choose the date you want students Extended access to end.
4. Click the box: Students can only participate in the course between these dates. Click the Update Section button.
5. Access the People area of the Course, then search for the student you wish to extend.
6. Click the 3 Dots menu to the right of their name and select "Edit Sections."
7. Begin typing the Section Name (Extended Deadline) and the section title will appear. Click on the section title to assign it to the student.
8. Finally, click Save to add this section to the student's section list.
